Leverage, joint locks, and chokes, taught in the gi by coaches who compete and corner at the highest levels.
BJJ at ATT Atlanta is built around coaches who still train and compete, including world champions who call this room home. Classes mix people from a lot of backgrounds, and the room is set up so a new student can drill next to someone who has been here for years.
The gym hosts seminars with visiting BJJ coaches and world champions. Belt promotions are earned in the gi.
On the schedule
It uses leverage and technique, so a smaller person can control a larger one with joint locks and chokes.
Wear comfortable athletic clothes, bring water, and come ready to learn the etiquette with the technique.
Usually 60 to 90 minutes: warm-up, technique, drilling, and live sparring.
About 500 to 800 calories an hour, depending on the round and your size.
It is a long practice. How fast you move depends on how often you train and how closely you pay attention.
“Excellent gym! Stopped in to train while traveling. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. The 6:30 BJJ class was great and challenging. Will definitely stop in again, the next time I’m in Atlanta. Highly recommended for those that live in the area or visiting.”
“One of the best gyms I have ever been to. ATT Atlanta has an awesome facility and great instructors. I have been training in mixed martial arts for about 7 years and jiu-jitsu for about 9 years and I have had the luxury of training all over the country, so that is saying a lot. I myself am a gym owner in northern Alabama and count myself lucky to be close enough to soak up some of that knowledge.”
“After moving to Atlanta, I searched for a new Jiu Jitsu home. I’ve had a wonderful experience training with ATT and I have been impressed with the professionalism, the organization, class beginning on time, the cleanliness, and friendliness. Being a female who trains in a male dominated sport, it can be very intimidating to walk into a new gym and not know what to expect. ATT has been a comforting experience where I feel at home.”
Also on the mat
Train both. The gi and no-gi rooms teach different grips for the same sport.
